The Database of Good Practice
This initiative identified examples of good practice that demonstrated improvement in workload management in general practice. Each example was evaluated to ensure it:
- was realistic for others to implement
- addressed workload issues
- showed real outcomes.
Once evaluated, each case study was loaded on The Database of Good Practice.

Improving workload management in general practice could improve patient care through improved access to services.
Good Practice Initiative
The Good Practice initiative identified practices and PCTs that were able to demonstrate excellence in relation to new ways of working in one or more of the following categories:
- minor-illness management and/or first contact triage within general practice/primary care
- non-GP-led models for managing patients with long-term illness
- new roles for a wider range of healthcare professionals, non-clinicians and non-professionals in healthcare and health-related social care
- models for managing common musculoskeletal/chiropody/podiatry conditions in general practice/primary care
- models for managing common dermatological conditions in general practice/primary care
- models for managing common women’s health conditions in general practice/primary care, including models for managing procedures and common conditions related to pregnancy in general practice/primary care
- models for managing common conditions in children in general practice/primary care/schools etc
- use of new technologies/processes.
